1. Housing access
|
-
State
housing summits in '03 and '04 produced the Iowa Housing for People
with Disabilities Action Plan, and have resulted in the development
of more than 750 new, accessible housing opportunities, with a goal
of creating a total of 1,000 in 3 years. This number does not
include more than 150 accessible homes that were built new or
remodeled by members of the Iowa Contractor Network. A third Iowa
Housing Summit will be held in the fall of 2006.
-
The Iowa
Contractor Network has trained over 150 contractors statewide in
accessible and universal design homes.
-
Iowa's
2005 Real Choices Systems Transformation grant will fund a housing
registry, counseling, and a state housing summit.

- The
Iowa Building Code, Iowa's default code in the absence
of city or county codes, is now compliant with ADA
Accessibility Guidelines for Buildings and Facilities
(ADAAG), and continues to monitor the Department
of Justice updates to ADAAG rules with an eye toward
keeping Iowa’s accessibility rules consistent with federal
rules.

The Iowa
Department of Civil Rights, the Governor's DD Council, the Iowa
Program for Assistive Technology, the UI Legal Aid Clinic, and Legal
