right to services in the most integrated setting that meets their

It is illegal to unnecessarily
segregate people with disabilities by requiring them to live in
institutions in order to get needed services.

No one should have to live in an institution
or a nursing home if they can live in their own community with the
right supports.
Olmstead supports the rights of Americans,
including those with disabilities and those who are aging, to have
real choices about:
- Living near family or friends
- Having employment
- Being independent
- Taking part in their community

Explain how Olmstead upholds basic American
freedoms when you talk with your:
- Family
- Neighbors
- Community
- Legislators

neighborhood, your community, and your state.
