Background Priorities Task Force Materials Agendas and Minutes Reports Funding

In early 2000, Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack designated the Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS) as our state’s lead agency to respond to Olmstead. Governor Vilsack called upon DHS to:

• Report on Iowa’s current service system

• Develop the “effectively working plan” recommended in Olmstead and the federal initiative

DHS convened a statewide steering committee, later given the name of the Iowa Olmstead Real Choices Consumer Task Force, which worked to gather input that shaped the 2001 Iowa Plan for Community Development. In 2006, this plan is being updated to reflect all that has been accomplished in Iowa toward the implementation of Olmstead.

Task force members include people with disabilities, family members, advocates, representatives of key state agencies, and other stakeholders. They currently working to implement Governor Vilsack's Executive Order as part of priorities they have identified:
